• The Book Thief

    Day 11
Book 2: The Book Thief  |  Reading Time: ≈ 14 hours

I wanted to read this book because I heard so many people raving about it so I thought I would give it a chance. It did not seem like my type of genre but I decided to expand my horizons anyway.

I just finished the book today and I have to say I am disappointed. You know that feeling you get when you read a really good book and you can’t believe how mind boggling it was, this is not that type of book. When I read the last page I felt so relieved I was finally done with it. I only finished it because I wanted to move on to the next book on my list. I felt like it dragged on, I wish the story had been told in half of the book, it just felt way too long.

I did shed a tear at the end with a certain kiss, but I was expecting it so it wasn’t that much of an emotional moment for me. I just expected more than I got from it, I am highly disappointed in all the good reviews I heard about it! I appreciate that the narrator was unique but hated how so many things were foreshadowed it eliminated any and all suspense.

Maybe it’s just me, but I am having trouble figuring out why the story in this book even matters, the story line just seems too disjointed and falls flat. I’m lost as to what the main message of the story is maybe I just missed the whole point. All I could think of the entire time I was reading this book was that I wanted to re-read Night, by Elie Wiesel instead of what I was holding in my hands.

I feel bad giving this book a bad review but it just didn’t meet up to my standards and I admit I fell asleep and dozed off plenty with this really long book. I will go on and see the movie and find out if this time, the movie is better than the book (shorter at least).
